This month we’re learning all about how “Jesus Loved the Little Children” with our babies and toddlers, while we’re learning all about Abraham and Isaac in “Abraham’s Big Test” with our preschool and kindergarteners. Take a look at how you can reinforce what they’re learning in your own homes:

OCTOBER 2016

Babies and Toddlers (6 months-2 Years Old)
This week we started a new lesson: Jesus Loved the Little Children. We want to remind our children that Jesus loves them very much. Here’s what something you can do at home:

  • TELL them Jesus loves them and you can name specific things about them that Jesus loves about them (ie. their smile, their curly hair, etc).
  • SING Jesus Loves Me to them or with them to remind them that Jesus loves everyone, including them.
  • COLOUR a picture with them (see attached) to show them that Jesus loved little children.

Preschool (3-5 Years Old)
This month we started a new lesson called “Abraham’s Big Test”. We’re learning about trusting God. This Sunday, we did a science experiment that showed us about what trusting God looks like. We have now moved on to Abraham right now on the Bible Timeline. Here are some things you can do or talk about to help:

  • ASK them what kinds of things do they love (ie. favourite toy or snack)? How would they feel if one day, God asked them to give it away?
  • DISCUSS about how God is always faithful and never wants us to be sad. Which is why He sent the ram in place of Isaac, just like when He sent Jesus in our place.
  • PRAY with them about how we can continue to trust God in all that we do.

This has been a very difficult lesson for our preschool and kindergarteners as it does talk about God asking Abraham to do something very difficult which was to sacrifice his son Isaac. However, we learn from the story that God loves and protects His children and shows Abraham how he keeps His promise by providing a ram to sacrifice in his place. Just like that story, we know that God sacrificed His son Jesus so we could be with Him.
