Elders

The Board of Elders provides oversight of the ministry and operations of the church. It does this task principally by providing guidance and direction at a policy level. The Board meets approximately eight times a year and works closely with the Senior Pastor.

Darryl Shoemaker (Chair)
Darryl and his wife are rooted in the Evening service and deeply appreciate the wide-open doors (physically and virtually) that Tenth provides to the community. Darryl is involved in a variety of service opportunities at Tenth including the EHS course and Connections team and works for HDR, an engineering and architecture company, as president of their Resources division.

Rebekah Bansback
Becky, her husband Nick, and their two boys, Charlie and Dylan, have been part of the Tenth West Side community since its beginning in 2009. After relocating from the UK to Vancouver in 2004, she’s spent her career in Human Resources, focused on all things people, talent, and culture. Outside of work she enjoys hiking (often with Ziggy the family dog), travel, and food with family and friends.

Paul Bryant
Paul has attended the West Side service with his wife and two children since 2014. Paul has an advisory business and enjoys surfing, skiing, great books, and coffee.

Christina Cheung
Christina has attended at the Mt Pleasant site since 2008 and has played bass with worship teams over the years. She is a senior executive at a Burnaby-based mining service company and is passionate about helping people find hope and meaning in life through trusting God.

Ernest Lang
Ernest and his family (his wife and two sons) have attended services at Tenth's Mt Pleasant location since 2018, after moving from another church in the Lower Mainland. He was born in Singapore but moved to Canada as a young child, and works in the finance, real estate, and investment industry. Ernest has served on several boards of directors in various sectors, including organizations in the finance industry, professional services, faith-based and secular community service organizations, and an national think tank.

Chris Lee
Chris and his family (wife Jill and three kids) have attended East Van since 2016, after moving to Vancouver. Chris works as an emergency physician at VGH and UBCH, while also holding leadership positions in disaster preparedness regionally. Tenth Church has been a foundational support for the Lee family since they arrived in Vancouver. In the absence of immediate family in BC, the East Van site has brought meaningful community for them, and Chris and Jill now lead a life group. If Chris is not in the hospital, he can often be found heading towards the mountains seeking adventure and the numinous.

Howard Louie
Howard attends the 9am Mt Pleasant service with his wife Teresa and daughters Jenna and Kayla. Tenth has been his family’s church home for close to two decades, and he has also served previously as the Board Chair.

Maureen Mogambi
Maureen has been attending Tenth West Side since 2009, where she serves as part of the Hospitality team. Since 2021, Maureen has also served on Tenth’s Audit and Finance Committee. Born and raised in Kenya, Maureen now calls Vancouver home.

Selina Quek
Selina and her husband, Albert, have gratefully settled back into Tenth East Van since returning to Vancouver after they retired. They are embracing a new phase of life including rest, renewal, reengagement, and grandparenthood! Selina was a family physician in her previous life, but is now content to hang out with others—to build friendships, provide hospitality, and advocate for the vulnerable. She finds much joy in volunteering with the Tenth refugee ministry and supporting the children at ICC (International China Concern). Her chosen verse for this season: "...do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don't take yourself too seriously—take God seriously." Micah 6:8 (The Message)

Elizabeth Thampy

Elizabeth recently moved back to Vancouver after seven years in France and made Tenth her home church once again (she attends the 11am service at Mt Pleasant). Over the past year, she served as a member of Tenth’s refugee ministry. Elizabeth had a global upbringing which spanned India, Nigeria, UAE, and Canada.

Ken is the Senior Pastor of Tenth Church and an ex officio member of the Board of Elders.
